As complete beginners my family and I were made to feel very welcome by members. A lovely location with such a friendly and confidence inspiring team of people makes it a great way to spend a Sunday, on and off the water.

Brilliant place. Only just found out about this and took my daughter who is ten. She thoroughly loved it. All seemed very professional and everyone was warm and welcoming. Highly recommend.

Following a very persuasive chat with Maurice Holmes at Retlord's Charter Day in May 2012, we decided to pop down to Daneshill Sailing Club the lollowing Sunday to sample the delights ol their Open Day and haven‘t looked back since! All the members were very welcoming. knowledgeable and protessional, encouraging us all to ‘have a go”. Our children Tom (14) and Lucy (10) were immediately hooked! We signed up for a lamily membership there and then and the children took part in the FlYA Junior Sailing Stage 1/2 Course in August. passing with llying colours. We lollowed, in a somewhat more sedentary manner, passing the RV/A Senior Level 1/2 Course in September. Belore taking pan in the courses we made sure we attended most Sundays to gain experience both in sailing and hands on rigging and de-rigging the various boats The children sailed Toppers, Bugs and Pico Lasers and we sailed the GP14's. We have tound an activity that we all thoroughly enjoy and can do as a lamily. The club members are a lanlastic group ol people lrorn all walks ol lite and all ages and very welcoming ol lamilies, couples or single members. Al the annual Social Evening our daughter Lucy was presented with the Gerry Waite Award lor the most promising Junior Member and her conlidence in sailing just keeps growing — she's been known to sail in winds that make the most experienced members seriously consider retiring to the club house tor a cofleel Tom has matured so much that on our Open Day this year he spent most oi the day taking junior visitors out on the Laser Pico showing on his skill in handling the boats and even managing to restrain himself lrorn capsizing. one ol his, Lucy's and the other junior members’ lavourite pastimes!
Allin all. I can honestly say that joining Daneshill Sailing Club is one ol the best things we ever did, so much so that in early January this year my husband Harry and son Torn drove all the way up to Castle Douglas to buy our very own GP14 which we have subsequently named “Billy” in memory ol my husband's late lather Bill Boulby who was a very competent and enthusiastic dinghy sailor... I can now see why he enjoyed it so much.
